A blog is an online diary of sorts. A "blog post" is the equivalent of a diary entry. Text aside, it can normally include photos, graphics, youTube videos, allsorts! Blog owners usually allow readers to comment on their posts though this can be disabled. A blog can be time consuming, scary if you're planning to get personal, and do require some management...or a lot if you get hooked! Writers block can be a curse too. A blog can be anything you want. Keep people up to date with your schedule, specials or other news. A way to have your say, give readers some insight into you, or simply idle chit chat. Being computer literate is recommended but not always necessary. A well run blog, particularly on your own domain, can easily be an alternative to a website. Perhaps even be more effective! I've covered some blog options below, but first a bit of terminology:

Comments: You can choose to let comments go live (published) as soon as they are submitted by the reader, or do what we call moderate. This means you will be emailed when a comment has been posted on your blog and will need to approve it for publishing...or not. You can also edit comments.

Subscribe: Most blogs have what is called an RSS feed. Bloggers always encourage readers to subscribe to their blog either by email (the blog software should have systems in place to allow this) or subscribe in a reader. Subscribe to email means that every time you publish a blog post your reader will be emailed either your entire post or a portion of it. Subscribing in a reader means they will copy the URL for your RSS feed into software which works alot like your email inbox. An RSS feed URL is similar to a website URL, for eg. http://www.nzescortsblog.com/all.php?tempskin=_rss2. This is the feed URL for a blog I manage. They are all a little different depending on who is providing you your blog. This article, What is RSS?, explains it all in a little more (confusing but good) detail. FREE, have a look. Intended for Escorts and sexually adventurous adults, all blogs running within it are separate from each other with their own settings which can be personalised. Each blog has its own RSS feed and each blog owner is the only one who can access his/her admin area which you must login to. One of the blogs on nzescortsblog.com is our Collective Blog which anyone can post into. The instructions for guest bloggers give you a basic idea of how it looks behind the scenes. Your blog URL will be www.nzescortsblog.com/yourname.php. You have your own links page so you can promote your blog by exchanging links with other websites. You also get your own about me page and I can add others for you if you have something else in mind! A photography blog is another option. With your own domain and hosting, you can install free blog software. I recommend B2evolution. Wordpress is another option but doesn't compare! They come with free templates to choose from. "Template" refers to the design or face of the blog. Installing and setting up your blog requires some expertise. If you purchase your hosting from me I'll be happy to help get you up and running. It can either be a design all its own or I can (probably) match it to your current website. With a blog you can easily post tour dates and clients can subscribe to them! A unique blog design on your own domain is by far the most professional approach. Templates look good but you'll be identical to many thousands of others. When I was first playing with blogging I created a blogspot blog which is still floating around out there. I did some customising to the skin (html knowledge required) but found it limiting over-all. In saying that there are some very famous escort blogspot blogs, you will have heard of Belle de Jour! Your URL will be www.yourname.blogspot.com. Awesome free advertising if you manage it well. Who needs a website?! Your blog can be subscribed to via an Atom feed (same concept as RSS) and you can add links or other information to your side bar.
